Dilute Stream Solid-Liquid Separations Using Continuous Vacuum Filtration Technologies

Continuous solid-liquid separation, by vacuum or pressure, are integral components of a processing scheme to produce energy from algae, biomass or other types of slurries. In solid-liquid separation systems, there are a wide variety of parameters that influence their performance. These include, for example, particle size and shape, type of particle (i.e. soft, gelatinous, discrete), density, concentration of solids in the slurry, viscosity, cake height, pressure or vacuum, and filter media. Continuous vacuum belt filters and continuous rotary pressure filters have been used to dewater these types of slurries. This presentation will focus on dewatering unit operations, test data and field installations.

Brought into line - Rotor crushers for the production of sand and fine sand

AT MINERAL PROCESSING

For the production of sands for the construction materials industry BHS Sonthofen has developed special rotor crushers, which depending on crushing requirements and the application range of the sand product can process soft, medium-hard to hard and wear-intensive rock. At the company's test centre original machines are available for conducting test series. The following paper describes the principle of operation of BHS rotor crushers and presents different examples of crusher performance with reference to screening curves.

The processing of organic, cellulose-containing materials has been around for many years. Currently, due to high oil prices as well as the significant increase in ethanol usage nationwide from both grain based and cellulosic based sources, there is tremendous interest in developing efficient, cost-effective manufacturing processes to produce energy from cellulosic feed stocks. This article will use actual process data to highlight the choice of pressure or vacuum filtration and cake-washing techniques for these newly developed bioprocesses.

Rotorshredder makes light work of refrigerators

Recycling International

To date, the RS Rotorshredder developed by German company BHS-Sonthofen has been used mainly for the disintegration and size reduction of mixed electronic waste and of shredder light fractions. But according to the manufacturer, the machine has not been exploited to anywhere near its full potential. However, since the summer of 2008, the largest model - the RS 3218 - has been used in the size reduction of refrigeration appliances by recycling company H.J. Hansen A/S of Odense in Denmark.

Shredder light fraction: the push to crush

Separation of the individual components of the shredder light fraction (SLF) is no easy task. However, German plant manufacturer BHS-Sonthofen has developed selective crushing machines which, it claims, can engineer potentially significant cost savings for shredder operators via the disaggregation and cleaning of input SLF material.
