Mobile mixing plants defying extreme coldness

With 1,700 employees, OOO Transstrojmechanisazia easily ranks amongst the largest Russian construction companies. It is currently engaged on several large-scale airport projects, where it employs four mobile concrete mixing plants from BHS-Sonthofen’s Monomix and Twinmix model range. All construction sites throughout Russia – from Saint Petersburg to Vladivostok – have one thing in common: with temperatures up to -40° C, their climatic conditions are challenging. Added to this, transport routes are exceptionally long between the individual construction sites.

Rotary pressure filters: Record performance in the drum

At the end of 2011, BHS-Sonthofen delivered five RPF X 20 rotary pressure filters to a customer in China. The filters are used in the manufacture of intermediate plastic products. In terms of throughput, they are the world’s largest rotary pressure filters. A suspension volume of up to 225 m3 is filtered per filter and hour. This is equivalent to roughly 100 t/h of solids per filter. (more: www.cpp-net.com)

Everyone has a general idea what mixing means, but describing the mixing process is not so simple. The objective of any mixing process is to distribute and blend the materials with different characteristics, different quantities as evenly as possible resulting in a homogenous mixture. Introducing proportional movement with the optimal intensity into the materials achieves effective homogeneous mixing results. A simple one-directional movement with inadequate acceleration of the materials would obviously not achieve the same mixing results. This would be more like stirring than mixing.

Framework for selecting thin-cake candle filter technology for removing solid contaminant fines from recirculating acid gas scrubbing fluid streams

The need for filtration systems in scrubbing units has been well documented. Filtration provides the benefits of reduced hot spots in the regenerator reboiler, reduced heat exchanger fouling and reduction of foaming in the absorbers. This paper discusses thin-cake candle filter technology that is used to remove trace amounts of solid contaminant fines from the recirculating fluid stream. These contaminants originate from various sources and are generally less than 3 - 5 microns in size, which makes their removal very difficult. Candle filter technology and the process of thin-cake building, is a new approach that is employed for high-efficiency and costeffective fines removal.

Combination filtration of pressure, vaccuum and clarification technologies for optimum process solutions

This article discussed a new definition of combination filtration that will provide process engineers a framework for “idea-generation” when analyzing an operating bottleneck. The approach relies upon the slurry analysis and testing to uncover the “process symptom” and then develop a process solution called “combination mechanical slurry conditioning and filtration.” This article illustrated that the installation and combined use of filtration technologies, while higher in capital cost, will result in a more reliable operating process at the plant. In all cases, however, only through accurate lab and pilot testing, will the optimum filter selection be realized.
