Floating concrete batch plants for one of the widest bridges in the world in currently the biggest infrastructure project in the USA

CPI - Concrete Plant International

The members of the "Tappan Zee Constructors" consortium use twin-shaft batch mixers from BHS-Sonthofen at the construction site of the biggest bridge in New York, the new "New NY Bridge". Altogether, the consortium uses seven mixers for mixing a total of 220,000 m³ of concrete. Three of these are in operation on floating concrete batch plants.

New VSI rotor centrifugal crushers with extra high throughput

AT MINERAL PROCESSING

At the bauma 2016 in Munich BHS-Sonthofen will be presenting the new VSI rotor centrifugal crusher (RSMX) with “TwinDrive” for the first time – i.e. a double drive – for a throughput rate of up to 580 t/h. The first delivered machine has immediately proved to be a success in the treatment of gold-containing ores.

Thin-cake filtration technology to meet full containment for air-sensitive and toxic chemical and pharmaceutical production

PharmaChem

In many chemical and pharmaceutical processes, solid-liquid separation, cake washing and drying steps directly impact the effectiveness of the production operation. Further complicating these operations is the nature of the process and especially if the process is air-sensitive or toxic. This article discusses the choice of thin-cake (2-25 mm) pressure separation technology for full containment, no residual heel and their benefits to optimizing the effectiveness of the production process. For full containment, the paper then continues with a discussion of clean-in-place operations to meet current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) guidelines including riboflavin test, validations and ANSI/ISA S88 and IEC 61512-1 batch process control systems.

Twin-shaft batch mixer used for major project

BFT INTERNATIONAL

At present, a Muslim faith community is having the “Mosquée de l’Algérie”, worth approx. 1.1 billion Euros, constructed in the Algerian capital city. The prayer room of the mosque is a huge cube which will accommodate up to 35,000 people. The production of a total of 618 octagonal spun concrete columns used for the monumental building was not a common project even for the manufacturer Europoles from Neumarkt/Germany. For this large project Europoles needed a new twin-shaft batch mixer of the DKX series of BHS-Sonthofen in order to be in the position to produce the required up to 20 m³ of concrete per hour.

More than 600 concrete columns for the world's third Largest mosque

BFT INTERNATIONAL

One of the largest mosques ever built with a prayer room covering 22,000 m² and the world's tallest minaret soaring 265 m high is under construction in the Bay of Algiers at present. The load-bearing spun concrete columns were produced by the manufacturer Europoles based in the German city of Neumarkt and shipped by vessel to the Algerian capital city.

BHS Twin-Shaft Mixers in use for the Tappan Zee Bridge Project (USA)

Concrete Products (USA)

Seven BHS twin-shaft mixers are producing the lion's share of the estimated 210,000 yd. of concrete for New NY Bridge cast-in-place structures, as well as tens of thousands of additional cubic yards for the bridge's main precast structural elements, primarily tubs for pile caps and pier caps.

The 3.1-mile New NY Bridge is the single largest bridge construction project in New York's history. The cable-stayed, double span structure, connecting Rockland and Westchester counties across the Hudson River, will replace the aging US Governor Malcom Wilson Tappan Zee Bridge by 2018, thanks to an aggressive construction schedule, lightweight design, and extensive use of near-record scale precast concrete componentssome north of 300 tons and engineered as stay in place forms for horizontal, reinforced concrete pier members.

Choosing a Fine-Particle Filtration System

Chemical Engineering Progress (CEP)

Filtration technology has advanced to meet the demand to remove small particles at low concentrations. When designed ocrrectly, a candle filter or a pressure plate filter may be a more-efficient replacement for a traditional filtration scheme.
