Energy from waste

Refuse-derived fuels (RDF) are obtained from waste and replace primary fuels in thermal processes. This saves money and reduces CO2 emissions. The original material generally consists of non-recyclable plastics, sorting residue, production residues, biomass and in particular domestic, industrial, commercial and bulky waste.

The waste materials must first be processed in order to:

  • obtain the particle size required by the market,
  • separate metals,
  • separate harmful components (e.g. materials containing chloride),
  • separate a high-calorific fraction if required,
  • ensure further quality properties, where applicable.

Shredding is at the core of RDF processing. Our corresponding machines range from cutting technology to impact crushing and shearing.

The Pre-shredder (type VSR) or the Rotary Shear (type VR) may be suitable for pre-shredding depending on the properties of the feed material. Metals, minerals, PVC or other materials that are undesirable in refuse-derived fuel (RDF) can then be separated further in purely mechanical process steps. The remaining RDF fraction can be reduced in the BHS SpeedCut Granulator (type NGV) to the particle size required by the market, giving the product a shape that can be poured, stored and that makes it ideal for utilization in whichever thermal process the customer desires.
