Recovery of pure non-ferrous metal fractions

There are many types of cable waste, ranging from wires to heavy ground cables. Electrical conductors contain copper or aluminum, and the sheath may contain plastics, lead, textiles and steel. Mixed cables of all types can be treated with BHS systems technology without pre-sorting.

  • The cables are coarsely shredded using the BHS Rotary Shear (type VR) in the first stage, usually resulting in part sizes of 100 mm in length. With this machine, even particularly thick cable strands can be reliably cut into manageable sizes.
  • In the second shredding stage, the BHS HeavyCut Granulator (type NGH) produces a granulation of less than 10 to 20 mm in size (depending on the customer’s requirements). Composites consisting of the insulating material and electrical conductors are largely separated in this process.
  • If required, this is followed by a third shredding stage involving a rotor impact mill or cutting mill. These machines are able to further disaggregate fine cables, in particular (telephone wires, for example). The BHS Rotor Impact Mill (type RPMV) can also shape non-ferrous metals into balls, which facilitates separation.
  • The necessary classification and sorting processes take place between the shredding stages and after the last stage. A dust removal system ensures a high degree of purity in the recovered products as well as a clean environment at the work site.

BHS plans and delivers complete plants for cable processing. Capacities range from five to ten metric tons per hour. BHS recycling systems feature a modular design and can therefore grow along with your company’s requirements.
